Newcastle United Football Club can now offer cold water therapy to a full squad of players at once, following a new install by Ice Bath experts at CET.
Newcastle United Football Club has been utilising cold water therapy for player recovery since CET first installed four CryoSpas at their training facility 2021. The CryoSpa is CET’s premium product, delivering the maximum therapeutic effect thanks to a combination of optimum water depth, patented jets and salt concentration. The new install saw CET install three more CryoSpas for the club, this time at the stadium itself.
NUFC also purchased a ThermoSpa, which heats to 40 degrees so the players can also benefit from contrast bathing. Contrast bathing works by promoting rapid alternation between vasodilation and vasoconstriction, which causes a pumping’ action in the peripheral circulation by using temperature rather than manual methods. Heat stimulates circulation bringing in fresh blood, lymph, oxygen, water and nutrients while cold contains the inflammatory response and expels stagnant fluid and waste products.
With each of the eight CryoSpas accommodating two athletes, up to 16 can benefit from cold water therapy – as low as 1 degree – at once.
Double ice baths to maximise the therapeutic effect
CET Founder and MD, Colin Edgar said:
“Our patented jets add deeper penetration of cold into the muscles, while the depth of our ice baths deliver optimum physical pressure, acting much like a compression garment, to deliver the maximum therapeutic effect. These are just two of the reasons we are the ice bath supplier of choice for the world’s best athletes and sports teams.”
CET is the leading Ice Bath supplier to the professional sport market working with dozens of premier league and international football clubs, as well as clients such as the Wimbledon Championships and the English National Ballet. They are also experts in helping health clubs and gyms to incorporate Ice baths into their facilities, particularly following a change to the regulations in November 2024.
